I offer my support to individual productions like feature films or series. Most typically I will help define the imaging pipeline, colour management and look development workflow,  (meta)data management plan and other parts of the production’s workflow. The tasks and responsibilities that I would typically take on when brought onto a project include:

  • Organising and leading workflow conversations at an early stage of pre-production
  • Documenting the workflow decisions that are made into a thorough workflow which will serve as a ’technical manual’ for the production
  • Establish the data management and dailies creation workflow (including budget implications)
  • Establish a color management pipeline that will guarantee color consistency from set into editorial and onto post production
  • Provide guidance on the creative implications of HDR delivery and help DOP’s and colourists get comfortable with that process
  • Attending camera tests, hair/make-up tests and other relevant tests in the workflow and look development process
  • Breaking down the delivery requirements

My typical main collaborators on a production include:
Director of Photography, DI Colourist, Digital Imaging Technician, Postproduction Supervisor, Line Producer, Production Sound Mixer, Supervising Sound Editor, Script Supervisor, Editorial teams and DI teams.

As postproduction vendors foray into new working methods or see an increasing demand for large international delivery schedules, I help with defining the right path forwards and offering an objective outside view on existing workflows and processes. The exact services I provide vary widely based on the need, but could include:

  • An in depth analysis of technical workflows where I will look at ways to more efficiently utilise available hardware and software, recommend effective upgrades of software and hardware and/or propose to bring more structure to internal processes and workflows.
  • Streamline processes and procedures executed by in-house production teams. I specialise in navigating international delivery schedules and making that a walk in the park.
  • Moving a DI vendor’s color pipeline over to fully colour managed and/or HDR compatible.
  • Facilitate an environment in which we can think outside of the box and look at future solutions that include emerging technologies like cloud and remote workflows and AI.

Because of my past experiences, I am a valuable sparring partner to:
C-suite, Technology Leaders, Picture Department Leads, DI Technicians, DI Producers, Colourists, Editorial teams, Sound teams

Display calibration: Precision and consistency are fundamental in high-end postproduction. I offer professional calibration services tailored specifically for postproduction houses, DIT’s and cinematographers, ensuring that reference monitors and projectors perform to industry standards. Using advanced calibration equipment and extensive color science knowledge, I help facilities achieve and maintain accurate color representation and reliable imaging performance. This empowers colorists, DIT’s, and cinematographers to trust their creative decisions.

While many modern monitors offer built-in auto-calibration, providing ease for regular checks, my service provides the additional reassurance of an annual sanity check conducted by an external, trusted expert. Additionally, I offer perceptual matching of multiple monitors within a single room to ensure consistency across your viewing environment.

I make use of the following equipment:

  • Jeti Specbos 2501 HiRes SpectroRadiometer
  • Colorimetry Research CR-100 Tristimulus Colorimeter
  • Portrait Displays Calman Ultimate

Although changing the world one production at a time is fun and rewarding, it’s not the most efficient way of moving our industry forward. I am a fervent trainer and public speaker and have established presentations and curricula on topics ranging from color management to the history of production workflows, from aspect ratio as a creative tool to the roles and responsibilities of the DIT. I’ve been a lecturer and/or trainer at events like:

  • APostLab
  • Camerimage
  • Digital Production Challenge
  • IBC

And have spoken on behalf of companies and industry bodies like:

  • ARRI
  • Netflix
  • Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS)
  • Netherlands Society of Cinematographers

Audiences I have spoken to over the last years include groups of:
Postproduction Supervisors, (Line) Producers, Studio Executives, Directors of Photography, Digital Imaging Technicians, Visual Effects Artists, from seasoned veterans to first-year students.

I Master The Process,
You Master The Art!
